As the 2024-2025 school year draws to a close, I want to take a moment to reflect on the remarkable achievements and initiatives we have undertaken together. This year has been a testament to our collective dedication to fostering academic excellence and a supportive learning environment for all our students.

As we close out the school year, we reflect with pride on the many strides our school community has made. This year has been one of intentional growth, meaningful collaboration, and focused support—all in the service of student success.

We began our year with a strong investment in our staff through initiatives like our summer boot camp, new hire orientation, and our Teacher Mentoring program. These efforts have helped create a strong foundation for instructional excellence and staff development.

We are especially proud to report a significant decrease in student disciplinary concerns this year. This progress is a testament to the positive climate and culture we continue to build throughout Lorenzo R. Smith. Our implementation of MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports) has further enhanced our ability to identify and provide the resources students need to thrive—academically, socially, and emotionally.

In our classrooms, we’ve embraced innovation and growth by adopting new Computer Science and Library standards, along with a new Reading/ELA curriculum. These additions reflect our commitment to ensuring students have access to rigorous, relevant, and engaging learning opportunities.

Our Mustang pride is stronger than ever! It shows in our students’ commitment to success, the improved daily attendance rates, and the increased participation in school events and Parent University sessions. Community involvement is a cornerstone of our school culture, and we are grateful for the continued support of our families and community partners.

As always, we remain dedicated to nurturing the whole child, with an ongoing emphasis on social-emotional well-being, resilience, and creating a learning environment where every student feels seen, supported, and empowered.

While we celebrate our progress, we also recognize there is still much work to be done in growing student achievement. Lorenzo R. Smith is committed to this journey and to building a school community that uplifts every learner.
