Legends of Lorenzo

HOPKINS PARK, Illinois – Pembroke Community Consolidated School District #259 will begin a Lunch Series called, “Legends of Lorenzo,” where prominent graduates of Lorenzo R. Smith School and Pembroke School District will be featured. “The goal is to expose the children to different career paths, inspire them to strive for excellence, and show them they are capable of anything with the knowledge and skills they start with right here at LRS,” says Superintendent, Dr. Nicole Terrell-Smith.

The first of the series will begin this Thursday with Mrs. Lucille Hayes, who is a retired educator in Pembroke School District, and a lifelong 102-year-old resident. In 2022, the playground was dedicated in her honor. Each Thursday, a featured “Legend of Lorenzo,” will share their experience as a student, and aspects of their career path. The presenters include current Village of Hopkins Park, Mayor Mark Hodge; Kankakee County Auditor, Jacob Lee; Bishop Mac girls basketball coach, Khadazhia Sanders; actor, Lamar Lillard; and award-winning filmmaker and director, Mike Spears.
